KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice in the case against the amendment of the law related to the Constitutional Council (CC) and appointments made in accordance with it.
After completing the hearing on the petitions filed against the acts, the SC issued a show-cause notice in the name of the Office of the President, and the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
The incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and the President’s Office will have to furnish a written response defending the decisions made by the then Prime Minister KP Oli.
Then Prime Minister KP Oli had on on December 15, 2020, issued an ordinance with a provision allowing the decision in the CC with the support of the majority of the existing members.
The constitutional bench comprising Acting Chief Justice (CJ) Deepak Kumar Karki, and Justices Hari Krishna Karki, Meera Khadka, Bishwombhar Shrestha and Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada had begun hearing on the case from last Friday.
