KATHMANDU: The government has approved the tenth amendment of the Nepal Police Regulations paving the way for the promotion of 21,000 police personnel serving in lower ranks of the organization.
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, while revealing the decisions of the most-recent cabinet meeting on Monday, said the Council of Ministers had approved the tenth amendment of Nepal Police Regulations.
The government had created the posts of senior sub-inspector, senior constable and assistant constable posts in the Nepal Police to boost morale of the security personnel. However, the regulations mandated one year’s performance appraisal to promote police personnel to the newly created posts. The regulations hindered the government plan of boosting police morale.
To clear the obstacle, the government decided to amend the police regulations.
Home Ministry sources said the regulations have been amended, enabling promotion to the posts on the basis of seniority for just once. With this, police personnel serving in lower ranks will be promoted based on seniority for one time. However, in the future, the performance appraisal conditions would apply.
