KATHMANDU: The Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti (Calendar Determination Committee), under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, has formed a panel to monitor and take action against those publishing calendars without permission from the Samiti.

Members of the panel are Basudev Krishna Shastri, Murari Raj Pandey and Khilhari Ghimire.

The panel has been tasked with monitoring and recommending the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and the Home Ministry to take action against those publishing calendars without permission.

The Samiti has provided approval to publish more than 100 wall calendars and 14 paatro (calendar) for 2079 BS, said Samiti’s Executive Director Surya Prasad Dhungel.

The wall calendars and paatro are required to mention their approval from the Samiti. This provision came on the heels of complaints that wall calendars and paatros created confusion and problems about festivals and holidays.

In response to this, a Cabinet meeting on January 4, 2021, provisioned that it needs to take approval from the Samiti to publish wall calendars and paatro.
