Farmers opt for potato cultivation in group



BENI: Potato cultivation in group has been expanded in Raghuganga Rural Municipality in Myagdi district.

The farmers of ward no. 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8 have been provided with seeds, fertilizer and technical assistance for the potato farming in groups, the rural municipality officials said.

The rural municipality has signed an agreement with each farmers’ group for cultivating potato at least in 200 ropani of land plot, Coordinator of Agriculture Section Sabina Sharma said.

The rural municipality has provided Rs 3 million in grant while the farmers’ group is also expected to make equal contribution in labor for the group farming.

Sharma hoped that the move of collective potato cultivation would help systematically run potato farming here for commercial purpose.

The rural municipality has provided mini-tiller and other technical supports to expand collective potato farming, Devi Katawal, a member of the Barkharka Farmers’ Group said. We are confident to develop our village as a pocket area for potato cultivation, she added.
