KATHMANDU: The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court has ruled to revoke the writ petition filed against the Citizenship Ordinance brought by the then Prime Minister KP Oli.

A bench of acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki, Justices Mira Khadka, Harikrishna Karki, Ishwar Khatiwada and Ananda Mohan Bhattarai on Wednesday dismissed the writ petition.

Delivering the final verdict on Wednesday, the apex court said that even though the ordinance was issued, there was no discussion in the parliament from the time of submission of the replacement bill to the time of discussion.

The Constitutional Bench had issued an interim order not to implement the ordinance on June 10, 2021.

The then Oli government had issued the ordinance on May 22, 2021. The ordinance was issued after the government dissolved the House of Representatives for the second time on May 21 at midnight.

Senior advocate Bal Krishna Neupane and others had filed a writ petition against the ordinance.
