BP’s homecoming with reconciliation policy unforgettable chapter of history: Jhala Nath Khanal



KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Senior leader of CPN-Unified Socialist Jhalanath Khanal, termed late BP Koirala’s decision of national reconciliation taken realizing the need of unity among democratic political forces as a bold and courageous move for the strengthening of democracy.

Speaking at a screening ceremony of a documentary entitled ‘Raajdrohi Raajneta'(rebellious stateman), leader Khanal lauded late Koirala as a wise leader.

“BP’s move is an unforgettable chapter in Nepal’s political history,” he said.

The documentary produced by the Sushil Koirala Memorial Foundation in collaboration with the anweshannews.com highlights about the policy of national reconciliation promoted by Koirala, his decisive moves, political career and the contemporary political developments.

The documentary sheds lights on issues relating to Koirala’s meeting with the then King during his confinement at the Sundarijal Jail, democratic movements involving him while he was in exile in India, his meetings and dialogues with Indian leaders and his closeness with them.

Moreover, the film incorporates accounts of NC leaders Kul Bahadur Gurung, Khum Bahadur Khadka and Ram Babu Prasai, former Prime Miniser Kirtinidhi Bist, the Koirala family and the family of Ganeshman Singh, former administrator Surya Prasad Shrestha, senior advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari, senior nephrologist Mrigendra Raj Pande and gastroenterologist Dr Madhu Ghimire in regard with the BP’s contribution to the Nepal’s democratic movement.

It also features personal narratives and opinions of judges who were involved in declaring Koirala guilty of treason.
The documentary features major political developments since BP returned home with the national reconciliation policy in 2033 BS to 2037 BS, the year that marked the national referendum on the country, according to Foundation member secretary Atul Koirala.

NC former general secretary and Foundation president Shashank Koirala, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Prasad Badu, leaders of various political parties, lawmakers, and distinguished personalities from different walks of life were among those attending the ceremony.
