KATHMANDU: The four-party ruling alliance is mulling over banding together an electoral alliance by holding discussions within respective parties in view of the upcoming elections in the country.

The Nepali Congress (NC), the CPN-Maoist Center, the CPN-Unified Socialist (CPN-US), and the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) discussed forming an electoral alliance at a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Residence in Baluwatar Thursday morning.

Government Spokesperson and Minister of Communication and Information Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said the four parties would meet again after discussing the agenda in respective parties.

“For the very purpose, the coalition was formed, the alliance should continue. An alliance is needed for political stability,” Karki said. “All the parties will discuss opportunities and challenges of an electoral alliance and decide accordingly,” he added.

The coalition meeting also decided to urge the UML not to obstruct Parliament as important bills were stuck in House.

The government spokesperson viewed that Citizenship Bill and Aviation Bill required parliament’s immediate attention.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Minister Karki, Senior NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, CPN-US Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav.
