US Ambassador pays courtesy call on Home Minister Khand

KATHMANDU: US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry has paid a courtesy call on Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand on Wednesday.

Minister Khand and US Ambassador Berry discussed various issues related to strengthening the mutual relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the Home Minister thanked Ambassador Berry and the US Government for their support and cooperation in the US grant project such as the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Home Minister Khand recalled that the confusions relating to the US grant project were resolved through the firm and clear views of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Similarly, during the meeting, US Ambassador Berry said that the MCC was ratified due to the clear role of the Prime Minister, Government of Nepal, and political parties.

Ambassador Berry said that he met Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday and thanked him for passing the MCC.

Ambassador Berry said the government and the House of Representatives’ explanatory notes on the MCC included the issues the US had already discussed.

“We already knew about the MCC’s explanatory announcement by the government and the House of Representatives. The explanatory declaration covers the issues we have been talking about,” said Ambassador Berry.

Likewise, Ambassador Berry praised the government’s decision to vaccinate refugees against COVID-19.
