KARNALI: The prohibitory order imposed by the local administration since last Monday has been lifted from Tuesday.
The local administration had imposed the prohibitory order after tensions flared up at Birendranagar in Surkhet district in protest of the USD 500 million worth US-aid grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
According to the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Surkhet Khagendra Prasad Rijal, now the prohibitory order has been lifted since 7pm today. However, the sensitive places have been declared prohibited area as per the Local Administration Act-2028 BS.
Places like Hatiline, Hatiyachowk, Mangalgadhi Chowk and Arichowk have been declared prohibited areas. No more than five people are allowed to gather in these areas.
CDO Rijal said that Birendranagar remained at peace following the prohibitory order.”There was no need to give continuity to prohibitory order. However, some sensitive places were declared prohibited areas in view of security.”
Protestors had attempted to vandalize the political parties’ offices in Surkhet as well as the police beat following which the local administration had implemented the prohibitory order.
Prohibited areas have been declared until further notice. Any kind of protest and slogan chanting are prohibited in those areas.
