Around 20 million ballot paper to be printed



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission of Nepal is preparing to print around 20 million ballot paper for the upcoming local level election scheduled to be held on May 13 this year.

In a press conference here today, Commission’s spokesperson Shaligram Sharma, said an agreement has been reached with the vendor company to procure papers to print the ballot paper. The vendor will supply paper worth Rs 110 million within a month of the agreement date.

The Commission is yet to decide on how many types of ballot papers to be printed and estimate the prospective voters based on the details furnished by the political parties active in the local levels. Among the 111 political parties registered with the Commission, 80 political parties have applied for party registration to contest in the upcoming election, informed Sharma.

Political parties aspiring to contest the election ought to apply for registration within February 19 to 27.

The Commission has directed the concerned authority to procure and manage 15 types of materials required to hold the election. The Commission has sought over Rs 8.9 billion with the Ministry of Finance to hold the election in a single phase. Discussion between the Commission and Ministry was underway for the same.
