KATHMANDU: Chairman of CPN-Unified Socialist (CPN-US) Madhav Kumar Nepal has warned that UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s return to power could be devastating for the country.

He alleged the then Foreign Minister Pradip Gyawali signed an agreement that made the United States grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) a part of a military strategy when Oli was in power, and Oli was preparing to involve Nepali Army in the joint military exercise of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

He added that he along with others saved the country from Oli in the past and such plans could not move forward after their vehement opposition.

Addressing a program of the party-affiliated Progressive Teachers Association in Kathmandu Saturday, Chair Nepal said, “KP Oli had nearly finished the country … if he (Oli) comes to power again, he will surely finish the nation.”

On MCC, he said the Unified Socialist was clear that MCC could not be passed in its present form. “In the case of the MCC, our point is that it should be a purely financial project. This should be in the form of grant and not in the form of foreign investment,” he said.

“It is not acceptable to make MCC a part of Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPS). Nepal cannot be part of any bloc, military or security strategy.”
