KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and the main opposition CPN-UML are scheduled to hold talks today as well on the widely-debated Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and other political issues.
The talks held between Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba on Thursday evening ended without any conclusion.
However, sources claimed that Prime Minister Deuba and UML Chairman Oli had on Thursday evening decided to resolve the ongoing political stalemate on the basis of understanding.
In the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, an agreement was reached in principle to reach an understanding as they did during the constitution-drafting process.
During the meeting held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar, the top brass of both parties discussed the recent political situation.
Meanwhile, on Friday, two sides are expected to discuss contemporary developments, including MCC, the UML obstruction of parliament, UML’s dissatisfaction over the role of Speaker Agni Sapkota in formation of the CPN-Unified Socialist, among others.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) was postponed on Thursday at the request of the government.
The NC is compelled to address the UML demand to impeach Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota in order to create an environment for the main opposition to participate in the proceedings of the parliament if the Speaker did not pave the way.
