Regular cabinet meeting taking place today

To dwell on MCC

KATHMANDU:  A regular cabinet meeting is taking place at 2 pm today.

The regular cabinet meeting takes place twice a week – Monday and Thursday.

This cabinet meeting is taking place at a time when the issue of the US grant assistance millennium challenge corporation (MCC) is getting thornier and more controversial.

According to a minister, today’s cabinet meeting will dwell on the issue of MCC.

A one-on-one meeting held between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist Center Charmam Prachanda this morning did not strike chords on the issue as they did not budge from their respective stances.

NC President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba wants to table the MCC in a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) while Prachanda is in favor of tabling it with the consensus from the ruling alliance.

Meanwhile, the ruling coalition meeting called for 3 pm today has been rescheduled for 5 pm in a bid to reach consensus on the MCC.

The Maoist Center has warned that it would pull out of the government if the MCC were tabled in the parliament without reaching consensus among the coalition parties.
