KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered to expedite the hearing of the writ filed by CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli.
A division bench of Supreme Court Justices Ishwar Khatiwada and Kumar Regmi on Sunday directed to hear the writ petition relating to the defecting UML lawmakers filed by UML Chairman Oli for hearing as soon as possible.
The order issued by the division states that in view of the importance and sensitivity of the writ (disputed issue) filed by UML Chair Oli, it seems reasonable to hold a speedy hearing.
Two writ petition filed by the UML Chairman are under consideration in the Supreme Court.
Chairman Oli filed a writ petition against the Election Commission, saying that it had allowed the 14 lawmakers UML had taken action to certify for the registration of another party (CPN-Unified Socialist) without taking any action.
Similarly, a writ petition filed against Lumbini Speaker Purna Bahadur Gharti is also under consideration at the apex court.
Although a hearing on both writs was scheduled for Sunday, Chief attorney of Lumbini Province Krishna Subedi had requested to adjourn the hearing saying that he could not appear in the defense of the case as he was in isolation due to symptoms like corona infection.
