5 “terrorists” killed in dual encounters in India’s Jammu and Kashmir



JAMMU: Five “terrorists” of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were killed overnight in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

Kashmir’s inspector general of police Vijay Kumar said that top JeM commander Zahid Wani and a Pakistani terrorist were among those militants killed by security forces in the last 12 hours, India Today reported.

Zahid was neutralized along with a Pakistani terrorist identified as Wahid Ahmed Rishi and two local cadres– Kafeel alias Chhota Pakistani JeM and Inayatullah Mir, the report said.

Acting on specific input about the presence of militants in the Naira area of Pulwama in south Kashmir, security forces had launched a cordon and search operation there, according to India Today.

While four terrorists were killed in the encounter in the Naira area of Pulwama, in south Kashmir, one ultra was killed in Chrar-i-Sharief area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, a police official said.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition, including an AK 56 rifle, were recovered from the site.
