NA election: Ruling coalition members elected in Sudurpaschhim



DHANGADHI: Candidates of the ruling coalition have emerged victorious in the National Assembly (NA) election in Sudurpaschhim Province held on Wednesday.

The Nepali Congress, the CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (Unified Socialist) have won the election in the province.

Narayan Dutt Mishra of Nepali Congress has been elected to the NA from the open category. He received 39 out of 52 votes cast from the state assembly.

Similarly, he got 104 votes out of 175 votes cast at the local level defeating his rival Dilliraj Bhatta of the CPN-UML.

On the women’s quota, Madan Kumari Shah (Garima) of the CPN (Unified Socialist) has been elected from the Far Western Province.

She got 3864 votes while his rival Santosh Kumar Sharma Thapa of CPN-UML got 1726 votes.

On the Dalit side, Jagat Parki of the Maoist Center has emerged victorious.

He received 39 of the 52 votes cast for the state assembly member and 105 out of 175 votes cast from the local body.

Voting started to elect 19 lawmakers to the posts lying vacant in the National Assembly, the Upper House of the Federal Parliament, this morning.

The Election Commission (EC) had fixed eight voting centers and 14 polling booths for this purpose.

There were 2,025 voters in seven provinces.

As many as 532 provincial lawmakers and the mayors/chairpersons and deputy mayors/ deputy chairpersons of local units cast votes to elect 19 NA lawmakers in the elections.

The election for NA members took place as the tenure of eight NA members from CPN-UML, four from CPN (Unified Socialist), four from CPN (Maoist Centre) and three from Nepali Congress is expiring on coming March 4.

There is a provision that the election should be held before 35 days of the expiry of the tenure.
