COVID-19 impact: UML postpones province conventions

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party in the parliament CPN-UML has postponed the province conventions scheduled for January 22.

According to UML’s Central Office Secretary Bhishma Adhikari, the province conventions of the party scheduled for January 22 and onwards have been postponed considering the third wave of coronavirus.

He said that the party will organize the postponed conventions on February 11 and 12.

“As the third wave of COVID-19 has started, the province convention scheduled for January 22 has been postponed to February 11 and 12,” UML Office Secretary Adhikari said, adding, “The party center has already issued instructions in this regard.”

However, political analysts claim that COVID-19 spread has come as a face-saving for UML which has not been able to complete the district conventions so far.

Earlier, UML’s Central Committee  meeting held in the second week of December had decided to hold the province conventions January 22.
