Attorney General Khati urges PM Deuba to resolve crisis in judiciary

KATHMANDU: Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati has urged Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to resolve the crisis in judiciary at the earliest.

On the occasion of the 71st establishment day of the Attorney General’s Office on Thursday, Attorney General Khati urged PM Deuba, who was also present at the program, to address the situation at the Supreme Court as soon as possible.

Nepal Bar Association has been staging protest seeking Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana’s resignation for the past two months. Supreme Court judges also expressed solidarity with Nepal Bar and even boycotted hearing since October 24. However, the apex court judges have resumed regular hearing following agreement on the implementation of the lottery system in scheduling cases at the court.

Various professionals and organizations of the judicial sector have been calling on CJ Rana to clear the way after it was revealed that the chief justice sought a share in cabinet following the restoration of the parliament.

CJ Rana also stands accused of other anomalies in the Supreme Court.
