SAARC Law Nepal demands Chief Justice Rana’s resignation

KATHMANDU: SAARC Law Nepal, an organization of judges, currently chaired by Supreme Court Justice Sapana Malla Pradhan, has demanded the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, SAARC Law Nepal regarded Chief Justice Rana responsible for the declining credibility of the judiciary.

“Chief Justice Rana is seen as an obstacle for the overall reform of the judiciary by controlling distortions, inconsistencies and corruption,” the statement said.

SAARC Law Nepal remarked that as the Nepal Bar Association, the Supreme Court and the judiciary have lost faith in Chief Justice Rana, even the judiciary, the Constitutional Council, the Judicial Council and the Judicial Service Commission could not function well in his presence. Hence, Chief Justice Rana should play his role to end the ongoing crisis at judiciary through his resignation.

SAARC Law Nepal also appealed to the Parliament, political parties and stakeholders to fulfill their constitutional obligation for the exit of the Chief Justice.
