Efforts underway to form common stance on MCC: CPN-US Chair Nepal



KATHMANDU: CPN-Unified Socialist (CPN-US) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal said that efforts were being made to form a common view on the Millennium Challenge Compact (MCC).

Speaking at a program organized by the Socialist Press Organization in Kathmandu on Monday, Chairman Nepal said that Nepal could not be a part of any military alliance, referring to controversial statement made by a US official that MCC fell under Indo-Pacific Strategy.

Stating that advocates of MCC had been trying to clarify that MCC wasn’t part of any military alliance, he said, “MCC must be purely financial grant that does not infringe upon sovereignty of the country and should not affect Nepal’s ties with its neighbors.”

Recalling that the ruling parties formed a three-member task force to discuss MCC with other political parties, leader Nepal said that the task force would move forward by protecting the country’s interest.
