KATHMANDU: Even though the construction of the International Cricket Stadium began 16 years ago at Mulpani of Kathmandu, it is moving at a snail’s pace.
One of the major reasons for the slow-paced work is because of the land in the middle of the pitch, which was sold and bought nine years after the construction started.
A woman Phul Maya Lama, who has constructed a house on the land bought seven years ago, says she has already received the instruction from the authorities to remove the house. Meanwhile, the plot falls within the boundary of the cricket pitch now.
The plot of three ana with plot number 401 and 404 falls within the cricket pitch. Fifty-two anas of land belonging to 11 families fall in the middle of the cricket pitch, according to Radha Krishna Bista, who has been working as a coordinator for the construction of the stadium on behalf the National Sports Council (NSC).
Bista said construction of two cricket grounds covering some 296 ropanis of land has reached its final stage.
