KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel faction to come up with a common presidential candidate is underway in Battisputali.
The meeting is expected to strike a deal on a common candidate for the post of president in the 14th General Convention from the non-establishment side.
The meeting held at Chaksibari yesterday could not fix a candidate from the Poudel faction.
Senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel held separate meetings with presidential aspirants at Chaksibari until Wednesday evening. Following the discussions, General Secretary Shashanka Koirala withdrew his claim for the leadership.
In the upcoming general convention of Nepali Congress, President Sher Bahadur Deuba is making preparations to file his candidacy for the post of president.
Meanwhile, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi has already announced his candidacy for the post.
Nepali Congress is holding its 14th General Convention from December 10 to 13 in Kathmandu.
