BIRATNAGAR: Uddhav Thapa of the Deuba-Sitaula panel of the Nepali Congress has won the post of President in Province 1.
According to the results announced by the Election Committee at 3:30 this morning under the 14th General Convention, Thapa was elected with 844 votes. Thapa is from the Krishna Prasad Sitaula group.
His rival Gururaj Ghimire of the Poudel-Koirala faction obtained 842 votes. While Ghimire took the lead from the beginning, Thapa eventually managed to win the elections by leaving Ghimire behind with two votes.
The establishment group has also dominated the working committee office bearers. Bhupendra Rai of the establishment side has won the post with 824 votes.
Similarly, Pramila Gachchhadar of the establishment panel won with 837 votes while Sita Karki of the Poudel faction got 793 votes.
Similarly, Khadga Phago has won the post of deputy general secretary under open category with highest votes. He got 1,026 votes while another winner Binod Kumar Basnet got 747 votes.
