Former PM Bhattarai demands immediate amendment of Constitution

KATHMANDU: Federal Council Chairman of the ruling Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said that his party was committed to ensuring the rights of all oppressed communities through an instant amendment of the constitution.

Taking part in an interaction program organized by Samajbadi Newa Sangh in Kathmandu on Saturday, former Prime Minister Bhattarai claimed that his party was in favor of the agenda of amending the constitution so as to ensure the rights of the oppressed communities.

“Our party is committed to the agenda of constitution amendment to ensure the rights of the oppressed communities,” he said, adding, “We will raise the issue of constitution amendment in the parliament as well.”

Claiming that justice and rights could not be achieved without further struggle, he urged the Newar community to play an intervening role in the establishment of an autonomous Newa state.
