Leaders Thapa and Lingden vying for chairman as RPP Gen Convention goes for polls today



KATHMANDU: The election process is beginning to elect the new leadership of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) from today.

Chairman trio Kamal Thapa, Pashupati Shumsher Rana and Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani simultaneously inaugurated the general convention of the party at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The closed session of the convention had begun immediately after the inaugural session at Bhrikuti Mandap and the election proves will start from today, informed Rajaram Bartaula.

Leaders Kamal Thapa and Rajendra Lingden are in the fray for the post of chairman. The general convention will elect a 41-member new leadership of the RPP including chairman, vice chairmen and general secretaries.

Chairman, four vice chairmen and three general secretaries will be elected through the convention. The elected chairman can elect up to 50 central committee members in accordance with the party statute.

Similarly, the elected chairman will nominate seven deputy general secretaries, seven assistant general secretaries, one treasurer, spokesperson, deputy spokesperson, deputy treasurer as per the party statute. Chairman duo Rana and Lohani are not contesting elections for the post of chairman this time. They are backing Lingden.

Around 4,200 representatives are taking part in the general convention.
