BENI: Beni Bazaar is facing a plethora of problems due to the increasing encroachment on its roads.
The physical structures and stalls constructed by encroaching upon the road and piling of construction materials on the roadside has created problem in the traffic management.
Besides creating difficulty in movement of vehicles and people, this has also spoiled the beauty of the town.
The haphazard installation of the hoarding boards, street vendors placing their ware on the pavement and unloading of construction materials and piling them on the road has created the problem, Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Indra Nepali, said.
“Problem is seen in traffic management due to the structures constructed by encroaching upon the narrow road,” he said.
The Traffic Police Office has written to the Beni Municipality for facilitating in removing such structures.
Beni Bazaar lies in Ward No 7 and 8 of Beni Municipality. The problem is seen at New Road, Ganatantrik Chok, Hulakchok, Campus Chok, Hospital Chok, Ganeshtol, Sangam Chok and Balmandir Chok areas.
The temporary sheds and kiosks constructed outside the houses and the hoarding boards placed abruptly on the roadside has obstructed the road.
Due to this, the pedestrians have to walk on the road, which has increased the risk of accident.
Meanwhile, the municipality officials and representatives of the District Administration Office, the security bodies, the Chamber of Commerce and the Traffic Police Office held discussions here on Tuesday on removing the encroachments in Beni.
After the meeting, the local government has given 15 days’ time to remove the encroachment on the road.
Mayor Hari Kumar Shrestha said they have launched a campaign of removing all illegal structures and hoarding boards and making the city beautiful.
Chief District Officer Chiranjibi Rana said the district administration would be compelled to remove the illegal structures constructed by encroaching the road and streets taking help of police if the shopkeepers and traders did not voluntarily remove such structures.
