SURAT: At least 19 people have been feared dead in a fire at a coaching center at Surat in the Indian state of Gujarat today, Indian media reports said.

Several others have been injured in the fire at the coaching center located on the third and fourth floors of the Taxshila Complex in Surat.

Students were seen jumping out of the second-floor windows in horrifying videos tweeted by local journalists.

According to officials, the top floor of the building was evacuated. A total of 18 fire tenders were on the spot to douse the fire.

Initial investigation has shown that a short circuit caused the fire.
