KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) candidate for the post of chairman and lawmaker Rajendra Lingden has said that no ‘seniors’ of the party should feel insulted at his candidacy and chairmanship if he wins.
Speaking at a press conference in the capital on Tuesday, influential leader Lingden said that he had demanded leadership to make RPP strong as the country needs to be strong.
He claimed that his candidature was not against anyone but according to the needs of the country, the party and the sentiments of the party workers.
“RPP cadres expect the party to lead the country ahead on the basis of its agenda rather than plotting for the post of ministers,” Lingden said.
He urged the leaders to take pride in handing over the leadership to the youths they grew.
“The generation you have produced has become worthy of leading the party. We have the courage to say that we can lead and make RPP the number one party in Nepal while you are alive and under your,” he said, aiming at the senior leaders within the party.
Lingden thanked party chairman Prakash Chandra Lohani and requested another chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana to be supportive for his candidacy.
He even urged RPP Chairman Kamal Thapa, another candidate for the post of party chairman, to feel proud at his (Lingden’s) grooming and success.
Replying to the people who criticize him as too young to lead the party, leader Lingden reminded them of the days when the leaders were picked for ministers while still a young age.
“You became a minister at the age of 30/40 with the king’s blessing. Yet the elders of the time obeyed you,” he said, requesting, “Let the new leadership try ahead and lead the country ahead with RPP’s ideals.”
