UML Gen Convention: 2,096 out of 2,153 votes cast; final results shortly



KATHMANDU: As many as 57 representatives have abstained from voting in the elections held to elect the new leadership of the CPN-UML under the 10th General Convention of the party.

Of the total 2,153 votes, 2,096 votes were cast in the elections held to elect the new leadership of the CPN-UML. The Central Election Commission has announced that 2,096 votes have been cast following the verification.

Babu Ram Dahal, a member of the Central Election Commission, informed that a total of 2,096 votes have been cast. “The verification has been over. A total of 2,096 votes have been cast. We will officially announce the final results shortly,” said Dahal.

According to Sher Bahadur Tamang, the secretary of the UML Central Party Office, the number of votes decreased as some of the representatives went back home.

The voting to elect the new leadership started at 4 am and came to an end at 11 am. There are two candidates — KP Oli and Bhim Rawal — competing for the post of chairman.

Ishwar Pokharel has been already elected as the Senior Vice Chairman unopposed. Seven candidates are vying for the post of vice chairperson.

Similarly, Shankar Pokharel has been elected as General Secretary and Prithvi Subba Gurung, Pradeep Gyawali and Bishnu Rimal have been elected as Deputy General Secretaries.

Likewise, there have been nine candidates vying for the post of seven secretaries.
