Backed  up by Gagan Thapa and Prakash Man Singh, Baniya wins NC Kathmandu President



KATHMANDU: With strong support from influential leaders of Nepali Congress (NC) Prakash Man Singh and Gagan Thapa, Krishna Sabuj Baniya has been elected as NC Kathmandu president for a second term.

Baniya, who had fielded candidacy for the post with the support of Singh and Thapa, defeated Upendra Karki, the party’s presidential candidate from the establishment faction, by a huge margin.  Baniya got his whole panel elected.

As a preparation of its 14th General Convention, NC had conducted election in Kathmandu district on Sunday. In the result that was declared on Monday, Baniya won with 1957 votes. His opponent Karki got 1089 votes.

Similarly, Raj Kumar Nakarmi and Gokarna KC got elected as vice presidents scoring 1829 and 1922 votes respectively. Likewise, Indra Bahadur Thapa and Govinda Pudasaini became NC Kathmandu Secretary with 1915 and 1817 votes. Rommel Shrestha and Prof Dr. Amita Pradhan got elected to the post of joint secretary. Shrestha got 1775 and Dr. Pradhan got 2,066 votes.
