Campaigners demand proper management of bamboos and clothes at Pashupati Aryaghat

KATHMANDU: The Bagmati River clean-up campaigners have urged the authorities concerned for proper management of the bamboos, clothes and other waste used while cremating bodies at Pashupati Aryaghat in Kathmandu, stating that such wastes further pollute the Bagmati River.

Campaigner Kishore Singh Shahi said that they extracted piles of wastages from the Bagmati River while cleaning up the Bagmati River. Campaigners cleaned up the areas in and around the Bagmati River at Sinamangal Saturday under the Bagmati River Clean-up Campaign that entered 446th week today.

The campaigners have appealed to the Pashupati Area Development Trust officials to manage the bamboos, clothes and materials used while burning the dead bodies at Aryaghat itself.

Around four metric tons of wastages were scooped out of the Bagmati River today, according to Shahi. Inspired by the Bagmati River Cleaning Campaign, campaigners have been cleaning various rivers in 108 places across the rivers. Campaigners coordinate efforts with the local authority and locals to clean the rivers.
