Maoist Chair Prachanda skips UML’s GC inaugural program



KATHMANDU: Despite getting invitation to attend and address the inaugural ceremony of the main opposition CPN-UML’s 10th General Convention, CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has skipped the program and sent Standing Committee member Lila Mani Pokhrel to attend it instead.

According to Prachanda’s personal secretary Ramesh Malla, Maoist Center Chairman left for Kavre on Friday morning.

Prachanda is scheduled to attend Maoist Center’s programs organized in Mahabharat and Khanikhola villages.

In the tradition of inviting other political parties to the inaugural session of the General Convention, the UML has invited major parties other than the CPN-Unified Socialists. Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is scheduled to address the inauguration ceremony.

Similarly, Upendra Yadav, Chairman of Janata Samajbadi Party, Mahanta Thakur, Chairman of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party and Kamal Thapa, Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party will also address the inauguration ceremony.

Likewise, leaders of eight political parties from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Cambodia will participate in the 10th National General Convention of UML. Parties from 25 other countries, including China, have sent congratulatory messages.

Representatives of five parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), are expected to attend the convention.

On behalf of BJP, former Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and National Secretary Harish Dwivedi arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday. Similarly, Pallav Sen Gupta from CPI, Jogendra Sharma from CPI-Marxist, Virendra Prasad Gupta and Sandeep Saurabh from CPI-Marxist-Leninist Liberation are also attending the program.

Similarly, Vijetha Herath of Janata Bhimukti Peramuna Party (JVP) from Sri Lanka will also participate in the inaugural ceremony of UML.
