Conference of Asia Shelter Forum begins today

KATHMANDU: The 3rd annual conference of the Asia Shelter Forum for Regional Learning and Cooperation on Housing and Settlement is scheduled to begin in Lalitpur today.

The conference is being organized with the technical and financial support of the Asia Shelter Forum under the leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and the Ministry of Urban Development.

The conference will be held till November 27 to exchange views on the work done in the field of disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation, said Dr Dijan Bhattarai, spokesperson of the NDRRMA.

At the conference, measures will be identified to build safe housing for the vulnerable households by expanding cooperation and network through government, national and international non-governmental organizations and community based organizations.

Lessons learned from the recent disasters in different countries will be discussed and conclusions will be drawn.

The conference will also discuss about good practices, learning and challenges related to housing and settlement and the programs implemented by Nepal, according to National Coordinator of Housing Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Forum Nepal, Minar Thapa Magar.

The conference will be attended by 200 people including 30 foreign delegates from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam and various countries working on disaster management while 400 participants will attend virtually.
