Nepal Bar not to debate on cases except habeas corpus as protest enters 21st day today

KATHMANDU: Nepal Bar Association has launched the fourth phase of demonstration against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana from today.

Announcing a week-long protest program, the Nepal Bar said the lawyers will not debate on the cases except those related to the habeas corpus writ petitions in any courts across the country today.

The Association has announced a week-long protest program after Rana did not budge from his stance of sticking to the post. Agitating Nepal Bar has maintained that it will not sit for talks until Rana steps down.

Similarly, General Secretary of Nepal Bar Lilamani Paudel said it has postponed a national conclave scheduled for November 10, 11 and 12 in Pokhara.

Undeterred by the protests, Chief Justice Rana has said that he will step down in line with the constitutional provisions, not based on the street protests staged by the advocates.

Nepal Bar has been staging protests demanding Chief Justice Rana’s resignation from October 31.

Week-long protest programs:

Sunday: Not to debate on cases except those related to habeas corpus in courts across the country

Monday: Sit-ins with black arm bands in courts across the country from 10 am to 12 pm.

Tuesday: Legal practitioners will not file any complaints, appeal, writ, debate notes in any courts or tribunals except the expiry of the time limit.

Wednesday: Massive protest rally in all high courts across the country

Thursday and Friday: Continuation of sit-in programs at the highest level with the participation of all bar units in the valley
