KATHMANDU: Nepal Bar Association, which has been protesting continuously demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, has announced its fourth phase of the agitation.
A meeting of Nepal Bar held on Friday announced the fourth phase of the agitation, said Bar General Secretary Lilamani Poudel.
Nepal Bar announced the fourth phase of agitation on the same day that CJ Rana wrote to Bar Chairman Chandeshwar Shrestha, proposing to hold talks. Secretary Poudel said protest program from Monday to Friday had been fixed.
Nepal Bar decided that lawyers across the country would not participate in debate and other court proceedings on Monday. Likewise, it was decided that cases will not be registered, demonstration will be held in district and high courts, memorandums will be handed over to the parties in the parliament and other Kathmandu-centric programs have been planned.
Secretary Poudel said the Bar’s meeting did not dwell on CJ Rana’s letter. He added Bar officials would hold talks only if CJ Rana resigned, otherwise they would not even sit for talks. He said that the agitation would continue until Rana resigned.
Similarly, the Bar objected to the use of police force in the protest Thursday and Friday. General Secretary Poudel said the non-participation program in courts across the country on Monday was in response to the use of force.
Some law practitioners, including Bar Chairman Shrestha, were injured when the police clash with lawyers.
