Hearing on all cases, including habeas corpus, held in Supreme Court



KATHMANDU: Hearing on all types of cases, including habeas corpus, was held in the Supreme Court on Monday.

Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana had assigned hearing on all types of cases, including habeas corpus.

A division bench of judges — Tej Bahadur KC and Dr Kumar Chundal conducted hearing on habeas corpus case and issued an order. Similarly, a division bench of judges Prakash Kumar Dhungana and Kumar Regmi had also conducted hearing on habeas corpus case.

A single bench of Chief Justice Rana had carried out hearing on all types of cases. CJ Rana had assigned 10 benches for hearing (eight division benches and two single benches).

Out of hearing assigned to 10 benches —hearing was conducted under two division benches and one under a single bench on Monday.

Hearing into cases had not taken place in the Supreme Court from October 25. Hearing had been held only on cases related to habeas corpus due to the strike by advocates and judges.

Issuing a press release on Monday, CJ Rana has called the protesting Supreme Court Bar Association to sit for a dialogue in order to resolve the existing problems facing the judiciary.
