It is inevitable to oust Chief Justice Rana as he won’t reform judiciary: Nepal Bar Chairman Shrestha

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Nepal Bar Association Chandeshwor Shrestha has said that Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has to be removed from the post as he would not initiate reforms in the judiciary.

Addressing a gathering of law practitioners at the premises of the Nepal Bar Association building prior to the sit-in at the Supreme Court Sunday, Chairman Shrestha said that CJ Rana would not initiate any reform-related work within the judiciary and hence it was inevitable to oust Rana.

Chairman Shrestha said that Nepal Bar was demanding CJ Rana’s resignation as the judiciary could not be reformed as long as he remained in power. Stating that CJ Rana damaged the judicial administration by practicing corruption, Shrestha said if he did not resign on his own then he should be forcefully removed.

“We are here for the reform of judiciary. Rana is the hurdle of judicial reform: we cannot bring about any reform until he occupies the post of Chief Justice. That is why, Rana’s resignation is inevitable,” Nepal Bar Chair Shrestha said.
