CJ Rana enters Supreme Court thru back door, assigns 10 benches amidst protest

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has entered the Supreme Court (SC) through the back door even today evading the sit-in staged by Nepal Bar Association.

Chief Justice Rana has formed 10 benches for hearing writ petitions today. Rana has formed one single and nine joint benches to hear as many as 272 writ cases amidst protests.

Meanwhile, agitating lawyers of Nepal Bar have announced a nationwide demonstration against Rana from today. They are also stating a sit-in at the entrance of the Supreme Court in a bid to restrict Rana from entering the office. However, Rana entered the office through an alternative gate.

Most of the disgruntled Justices have said that they would not sit in the benches unless the Nepal Bar advocates boycott the pleadings.
A huge number of security personnel have been mobilized on the premises of the Supreme Court.

Nepal Bar advocates had started gathering at the Supreme Court premises before 10 am not to allow Ran to enter the office.
