Govt to provide Rs 550,000 in relief to families of victims of Motipur incident



KATHMANDU: The government has decided to provide relief amounting Rs 550,000 to the families of victims of the incident at Motipur Industrial Area in Butwal, Rupandehi.

A cabinet meeting held Monday decided to provide Rs 550,000 in relief to the families of the victims of Motipur incident. The Ministry of Home Affairs clarified that financial assistance would be Rs. 500,000 and additional Rs 50,000 was meant for funeral-related expense.

Police and squatters occupying the areas in Motipur Industrial Area in Butwal had clashed on October 10 when the former tried to evict the latter. Police had even opened fire to bring the situation under control.

Four people were killed from police fire and more than two dozen were injured in the incident. Earlier, Lumbini Province government had decided to provide assistance of Rs 100,000 each to the families of victims of the Motipur incident.

Other cabinet decisions

Similarly, the cabinet decided to promote Niru Dahal Pandey to the Gazetted Special Class under Nepal Agriculture and Forest Services category.

Also, the government approved the establishment of sisterly ties between Kirtipur Municipality and Huhang city of China’s Hubei Province.

The government also approved land acquisition process for the purpose of construction of 400 KV substation in Kushma and Jumla substation.
