Salyan bus accident update: 10 deceased identified



SALYAN: The death toll in Salyan bus accident has reached 12. Of the deceased, identity of 10 passengers is confirmed.

A Tulasipur-bound bus (Na 2 Kha 2552) carrying 37 passengers fell some 200 meters off the road at Kharkhola of Kapurkot Rural Municipality on Sunday morning, killing at least 12 people and injuring many more.

The deceased are Prabha Chalaune, 53, of Sharada Municipality-12; Meena Dangi, 61, of Sharada Municipality-2; Leela Budhathoki, 66, of Sharada Municipality-3 and Meena Shahi, 24, of Triveni Rural Municipality-1, according to the District Police Office, Salyan. Duli Reule, 60, and Kalawati Budhathoki, 70, of Babai Rural Municipality in Dang; 65-year-old Indra Adhikari of Gorahi in Dang and Tilak Oli, 29, of Chhatreshwori Rural Municipality in Salyan also died in the accident.

Likewise, the other deceased are 35-year-old Sabitra KC of Shantinagar Rural Municipality-8 in Dang and five-year-old Suraj Oli of Korbang, Dang.

Some of the injured people receiving treatment at different hospitals are reported to be in serious condition, said police. It is said that 13 critically injured ones are sent to Nepalgunj-based hospitals for treatment by helicopters.

The bus driver is absconding from the scene and a search for him is ongoing, police stated.
