KATHMANDU: Five of the 11 Afghani nationals, who had entered Nepal illegally, have left for Mexico.

Director General of the Immigration Department Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said five of the 11 Afghan left for Mexico on Sunday and the department facilitated their exit from the country as they had visas to Mexico.

“Some of them left on their own. They had a visa for Mexico,” said Director General Bhattarai. The five Afghanis leaving for Mexico were members of the same family, comprising husband and wife, an eight-year-old son, and two daughters aged 11 and 17. The husband had previously worked for the United Nations in Afghanistan.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of Nepal Police had arrested 11 Afghani nationals from a hotel in Sinamangal on October 25 after finding out about them and handed them over to the Immigration Department.

The remaining six Afghanis were in contact with the Immigration Department. The department said that they are being investigated. However, no decision has been taken about what to do with them, said Bhattarai.

Eleven Afghan nationals had entered Nepal through the Golden Gate of Rupandehi via Delhi.
