Head coach of Nepali men’s national football team Almutairi honored

KATHMANDU: The government has feted the head coach of Nepali men’s national football team, Abdullah Almutairi, on Sunday.

Minister for Youth and Sports Maheshwor Jung Gahatraj honored Almutairi with Dhaka topi and shawl at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Coached by Almutairi, the Nepali football team stood second in the SAAF Football Championship held from October 1 to 16 in Maldives. The Minister honored him for his notable contribution for helping Nepal reach the second position in the regional football competition. Nepal, Maldives, India, Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh competed in the match. India beat Nepal 3-0 in the match.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Gahatraj lauded that head coach Almutairi won over not only the Nepali football players but also the Nepali people in a short span of time. He praised, “We are pleased to have you back in Nepal. You are not only a good friend to the Nepali footballers but also a good friend of Nepal. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is with you. So are the footballers.”

Stating that the government of Nepal had taken cognizance of the issues prevailing the sports sector in the country, the Minister pledged to address those issues. He expressed his confidence that the Almutairi’s leadership would help in development and expansion of the football in Nepal.

Honored Kuwaiti national Almutairi said that Nepal achieved such a high-level result due to hard work of the players and himself.
