Disgruntled SC judges attend full-court meet to pass condolence motion

KATHMANDU: Supreme Court justices, who earlier decided to boycott the session, participated in a full-court meeting with the Chief Justice.

The judges, who earlier held a group discussion, went to the full court meeting.

A full court meeting was held to pass a condolence motion on the demise of former Supreme Court Justice Sharda Prasad Pandit.

Former Justice Pandit passed away on Wednesday morning.

Judges have boycotted the session demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana.

They boycotted the full court meeting convened to resolve the issue.

SC judges Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Harikrishna Karki, Bishwambhar Shrestha, Dr. Anand Mohan Bhattarai, Prakash Man Singh Raut, Bamkumar Shrestha, Tanka Bahadur Moktan, Prakash Kumar Dhungana, Sushmalata Mathema, Kumar Regmi, Hari Prasad Phuyal, Manoj Kumar Sharma, Kumar Chudal and Nahakul Subedi, who boycotted the session and engaged in a group discussion, had also met Chief Justice Rana on Tuesday and demanded his resignation.

Due to the death of the former judge Pundit, the hearings on all benches will be postponed after passing the motion, as there is the convention of not carrying out any hearing on the day the condolence motion is passed.

Despite the controversy and the SC judges’ refusal to carry out a hearing on benches allocated by Chief Justice Rana, the Chief Justice had scheduled 11 benches for Wednesday.
