Nine persons sentenced to life for killing two cops



KAILALI: The District Court, Kailali has handed down life imprisonment to nine people for killing two policemen at Jugeda Village in the southern part of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City in the Kailali district.

The single bench of Justice Jayananda Paneru delivered the verdict to sentence Rajendra Rana of Dhangadi10, Rohit Rana aka Parku, Raj Kumar Rana aka Gabbar, Suresh Rana, Ram Niwas Rana, Dalaram Rana aka Tallu, Rohit Rana, and Ram Gopal Rana of ward no 11 of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City.

According to the record keeper at the District Court Raibhan Kunjeda, the court handed down a life sentence to those involved in the murder of two police persons.

All the accused had been remanded in custody during the investigation. Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Govinda BK and police constable Ram Bahadur Saud had disappeared while they were patrolling along the bordering area on October 17 last year.

The dead bodies of the disappeared police personnel were later spotted in the Mohana River along the Nepal-India border.

Police investigation concluded that the police personnel was murdered while trying to curb the smuggling of food items mainly beans. Rajiv Gupta, a business person from Dhangadhi who was also accused in the murder case, has been acquitted by the court, record keeper Kunjeda said.
