Govt to announce date for NA members’ election soon: PM Deuba



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the government would soon announce the date for the election to the post of 19 National Assembly members going to fall vacant on March 5, 2022.

During a meeting with office-bearers of the Election Commission Monday, Prime Minister Deuba, however, shared that a conclusion would be drawn regarding upcoming election to local levels and by-election to the vacant posts of House of Representatives and Province Assembly members only after holding discussion with coalition partners and other political parties. He mentioned, “The government will help in improving electoral system and making voters name registration work effective.”

On the occasion, discussion was held on various matters including declaring the date for the election of NA member and constitutional and legal provisions regarding upcoming election of local levels, by-election to the vacant post of four House of Representatives members and 18 Province Assembly members, said Joint-Secretary at the EC, Yagya Prasad Bhattarai.

Similarly, discussion was also held on the legal and technical issues regarding voting rights of Nepali voters outside Nepal, according to EC.

Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Pampha Bhusal, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Chief Election Commissioner, Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, commissioners—Ishwori Prasad Paudyal, Ram Prasad Bhandari, Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Sagun Shumsher JB Rana, among others were present on the occasion.
