KATHMANDU: The death toll from the train-triggered landslides and floods since Sunday has reached 17 across the country.
According to the Home Ministry, 17 people have been killed in different districts till Wednesday morning.
According to ministry spokesperson Phanindra Mani Pokhrel, six each died in floods in Dhankuta and Humla, three in Panchthar and two in Ilam.
Pokharel said that the floods caused more damage in the far-western states and telephone and mobile phone services have been disrupted.
Communication services have also been affected in Province 1 due to power outage. Due to incessant rains, the substation at Duhabi in Sunsari has been submerged.
Due to which, power supply has been cut off in Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur and other districts from Tuesday evening.
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has stated that the power supply line has been cut off after the substation was inundation.
Even though the monsoon has already subsided from Nepal, the combined effect of low-pressure system formed around Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in India and the westerly wind have been causing rains in Nepal for the past few days.
