KATHMANDU: As many as 1,500 metric tons of chemical fertilizers have been stuck at Tatopani checkpoint after the China government did not resume smooth operations of the border point.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a letter to the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu after 1,500 metric tons of chemical fertilizers that arrived at Tatopani checkpoint on September 28 were not allowed to pass into Nepal.

The Foreign Ministry has written a letter requesting the Chinese Embassy to facilitate for the release of 1,500 metric tons of chemical fertilizers that remained stuck at Tatopani checkpoint due to the China government’s provision to allow only a limited number of vehicles.

Farmers in Nepal have been hit hard due to the lack of chemical fertilizers brought from China, reads the letter.

“If the Chinese Embassy facilitated for the release of the stuck chemical fertilizers, it would be an appreciative job and that would make the Nepal government feel that China always places Nepal on top priority,” reads the letter.

Around 1,100 cargo trucks and lorries have been stuck at Nepal-China borders due to the norther neighbor’s failure to resume smooth operations of the Nepal-China border point.

China has allowed only 10 trucks or lorries from Tatopani checkpoint to pass into Nepal on a daily basis.
