Nepali football team arrives home (photo feature)



KATHMANDU: The Nepali football team that became the first runner-up in the SAFF Championship 2021 has arrived home.

The team members and officials landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at 10:30 am.

Minister for Youths and Sports Maheshwor Jang Gahatraj had reached TIA to welcome the football team.

Nepal reached the final of the SAFF Championship for the first time in its history that started in 1993.

Nepal finished second in the SAFF Championship following a 3-0 defeat inflicted by India in the final held in Male, the capital city of Maldives on Saturday.

Aside from Nepal, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh had participated in the tournament.

Nepal had defeated Maldives by 1-0 and Sri Lanka 3-2 and lost to India 0-1 in the league stage. Nepal, which reached the final after it drew with Bangladesh, lost to India 0-3 in the final.
