Minister Khand discusses implementation of govt-signed deal with Chand-led party

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has taken an interest in the implementation of an agreement struck by the previous KP Oli-led government with Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplov’-led Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

According to the Home Minister’s Secretariat, Khand discussed matters related to the implementation of the agreement with Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Prasad Badu, Attorney General Kham Bahadur Khati and Home Secretary Teknarayan Pandey on Sunday.

Sunday’s discussion focused on the release of jailed leaders and cadres of Chand-led party and the dismissal of all cases filed against them. Some of the leaders and cadres of the formerly banned party are behind bars. Though the Oli-led government had agreed to release them and signed the agreement, its full implementation remained.

Law Secretary Uday Raj Sapkota and Attorney General Khati briefed Minister Khand about the cases that could be dismissed. Secretary Sapkota apprised the Minister that most of the cases were already settled and only specific, complicated cases that could not be dismissed under law remained.

The Home Minister’s Secretariat has said that talks on the matter would be continued with Chand-led party leaders.
