Monsoon subsides for this year; 15% more rainfall than average



KATHMANDU: The monsoon has fully subsided for this year.

Issuing a weather bulletin on Tuesday morning, the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has said the monsoon this year has existed from Nepal from Monday evening.

The monsoon subsided nine days later than the usual time. It usually subsides from October 2.

The monsoon which started subsiding from some parts of the country on Friday fully exited from Monday evening, said the Division.
The monsoon had exited from Sudurpashchim Pradesh, Karnali, and the western part of Lumbini Pradesh from Friday, said the Division.
The rain occurred by 15 percent more than the average this year.

Pokhara receives 3,064 millimeters of rain in average during the monsoon while it witnessed 4,270 millimeters rain in the last four months this year, said Indira Kandel, a senior meteorologist.

The north-east part of Karnali Pradesh reached the least rainfall this year. Mustang which normally receives 158.5 millimeters of rain in an average has received 430 millimeters of rain.

Light rainfall forecast in hilly region today

Light rain is forecast in the hilly region today despite the exist of the monsoon, said the MFD.

The weather will remain generally cloudy in Sudurpashchim and Karnali Pradesh and partly cloudy in the rest of the provinces.

The Division has forecast generally clear and partly cloudy weather in some parts of the hilly region with chances of light rains with thunderstorms in one or two places of the country.
